I have been fighting so publicly and so hard against the disastrous Republican nominee that I think perhaps I haven’t made it clear what I’m voting FOR this Tuesday. So I want to clarify: I’m not just voting against a terrible candidate, I’m voting for an exceptional one. I have no hesitation in voting for Hillary Clinton. She is not a second choice for me. There are so many reasons #Imwithher.
I’m with her because as a woman, I have faced discrimination on the job and elsewhere. Not only does she know what that is like personally, she will fight it for the rest of us.
I’m with her because as someone with a non-white partner, I know that even in 2016, there are places I would not feel comfortable going with him because of racism. (And if he’s not welcome, I refuse to go.)
I’m with her because as someone who identifies as bisexual, I don’t believe the fact that I can easily pass as straight should be what protects me from discrimination.
I’m with her because as an atheist, I resent and fear being made to accept Christian sharia law in my own life, and I support religious freedom for everyone.
I’m with her because when I was a little girl, someone “grabbed me by the pussy.”
I’m with her because none of us would be here without immigrants, and I believe that immigrants are part of what make our country great.
I’m with her because I believe we have a responsibility to offer asylum to those from war-torn countries and that Syrians and other refugees are human beings deserving of our help, kindness, and love.
I’m with her because mothers and fathers of African-American children should not have to specially prepare them for encounters with police, nor should people of color be targeted by law enforcement for special attention.
I’m with her because I believe that we need to continue and enhance the economic and taxation policies of the Obama administration to support continued growth.
I’m with her because I believe corporations are not people.
I’m with her because I think mocking people because of their disabilities is completely unacceptable.
I’m with her because I care about the environment.
I’m with her because we need to make healthcare more available, not less.
I’m with her because no one should be able to override the healthcare and reproductive decisions a woman and her doctor make.
I’m with her because the only nations that prefer the alternative are authoritarian regimes.
And mostly, I’m with her because I care deeply for the future of this country and the world and and trust Hillary Clinton—without reserve and certainly far more than anyone else in the running—to lead us into that future with hope, determination, and strength.
This election day and for the next four years, #Imwithher.
